Educational Jewish Video Games

devsonKids love to play video games, but a lot of the titles on the market today are needlessly violent. This makes them inappropriate for younger audiences. Still, that doesn’t mean young Jewish kids have to forgo a Nintendo Wii. There are tons of fun, educational video games that are designed to keep kids entertained for hours on end.

Take Mitzvah Man for example. This popular character is essentially the Jewish Pac-Man. Mitzvah Man has over 1,000 questions on topics such as Shabbat blessing and Kashrut laws. Unlike other video games, this one encourages Jewish learning. It is appropriate for all ages, so any child old enough to use a computer is old enough to play the game. There are variable difficulty levels.

Maybe your child is more into role playing (RPG) games? Devorah’s Song takes RPG video game concept and applies it to biblical stories. It is like being fully immersed in the stories of old. Kids prowl ancient markets, solve puzzles, and talk with a huge cast of biblical characters. The game is a bit more complex and is for ages 12 and up.
